Exit planning in Calgary, Alberta
You built something real here. The trucks are busy, the clients are loyal, the phone keeps ringing. But every one of those calls still comes to you. Exit Queen helps Calgary owners build a business that can run, and sell, without them.
The struggle
Most owners who call us are not failing. They are carrying. They quote the jobs, approve the purchases, keep the best client relationships, and answer the questions nobody else can answer.
It works, until they want to slow down, retire, hand the company to a son or daughter, or sell. Then they learn what a buyer sees: a business whose value walks out the door with its owner. Personal goodwill does not transfer. A buyer discounts it, asks for an earn-out, or walks away in due diligence.
Some owners find out when an offer comes in far below what they expected. Some find out when they are too tired to keep going and realize nobody else can.
The shift
The S2Q™ Exit Method moves the business through five shifts, so a buyer, a successor, or you on a long holiday can see what keeps working.
The work keeps moving when you step away.
Decisions have owners, limits, and rules, not a line outside your office.
Clean books and a real break-even, so the numbers stand up in due diligence.
What you know gets written into systems the team actually uses.
Clients trust the company, so the book of business stays when ownership changes.
The outcome
The founder was the business: his name, his cell number, his labour. His own CPA valued the company at $30,000. Esther took over operations, set a true monthly break-even, took the founder out of sales and quoting, restructured cash flow, and rebuilt the books.
In under eight months the company collected $790,000, more than three times its best year, and net margin went from nothing to 15%. At the sale ten months later, the same CPA valued it at more than $350,000.
Who we work with
Exit Queen works with founder-led companies in Calgary and across Alberta: construction and the trades, retail, oil and gas, and financial services. The common thread is not the industry. It is an owner who is still the operating system.
Whether you are planning to sell in two years, hand the business to family or a key employee, or simply want to take a month off without the phone, the work is the same: build transferable enterprise value.
If you would like to meet the people being trained to take over a business like yours, you can join the Handover Room as our guest.

Questions Calgary owners ask
Exit planning is the work of getting a business ready to be sold, handed down, or simply owned without the founder carrying it every day. At Exit Queen that means removing founder dependency: moving decisions, knowledge and client relationships out of the owner's head and into the company, and cleaning up the numbers so a buyer can trust them.
Earlier than most people think. The things that raise what a business is worth, like a team that can run the work, clients who trust the company and not only the owner, and clean financials, take months to build. Starting while you have no deadline gives you choices. Starting when an offer arrives or when you are burned out leaves you negotiating from a weak position.
No. Many owners never sell. A business that can run without its owner is easier to keep, safer to hand to the next generation or a key employee, and worth more either way. Exit Queen treats sellability as freedom first and a sale second.
Exit Queen does not replace your accountant or a chartered business valuator. The S2Q Exit Score shows how dependent the business still is on you, which is one of the biggest things a buyer discounts. Then we work on what drives the number: owner dependency, financial clarity, and client portability.
Founder-led companies where the owner still carries the work: construction and the trades, retail, oil and gas, and financial services. If every real decision still comes back to your desk, the business is a fit.
